Glen Denning DeVanie

Glen Denning DeVanie, 25, loving husband and father, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, while in the performance of his official duties as deputy marshal for the city of Alexandria.
Services for Mr. DeVanie will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Calvary Baptist Church with Father Steve Brandow and Rev. Bob Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Alexandria.
Glen was a native of Alexandria, a graduate of Holy Savior Menard High School, the Alexandria Police Academy, LSUA, and was to graduate from Northwestern State University in May. In addition to his scholastic achievements, Glen was a nationally certified EMT and an entrepreneur involved in many business endeavors.
Glen was active in the Boy Scouts. In addition to being the recipient of numerous scouting awards, his accomplishments included being an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow Member, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and the District Award of Merit. Glen had been awarded the Arrow of Light Award, which is the Cub Scout's highest award, and the Ad Altare Dei Award (the Catholic Boy Scout Award). He was the program director for the Attakapas Council Summer, Winter, and Aquatic Camps, Ouxouiga Lodge Advisor, former Lodge Chief, and was on the planning committee involved in merging Attakapas Council with another council.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Robertson DeVanie; 18-month-old daughter, Caroline Elizabeth DeVanie; 3-1/2-week old son, Ethan Glen Denning DeVanie; mother and stepfather, Kay Denning Wood and Jerry P. Wood, Sr. of Alexandria; father, Charles Patrick DeVanie, III of Alexandria and Panama City, Fla.; grandmother, Janice Couvillon DeVanie of Alexandria; grandparents, Dr. Harold Glen and JoLynn Davis Denning of Baton Rouge; brother, Jonathan DeVanie of Alexandria; stepbrother, Jerry Wood, Jr. of Alexandria; and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan DeVanie, Wes Turrentine, Slater Rhea, Luke Lemoine, James Proctor, Lawson Fall, Wayne McConnell, and Glenn Younger.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, 701 Jackson St., Alexandria.
